Description/Blazon
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of the shield of the coat of arms blazoned:  Per chevron enhanced embattled Sable and Or, a spur with leather strap with buckle, of the first.  Attached below the shield a Black scroll inscribed "ALWAYS IN THE LEAD" in Gold letters.

Symbolism
Yellow is the color traditionally associated with Cavalry.  The embattled chevron symbolizes spearhead capabilities and Armor protected mobility.  The spur, alluding to the history and traditions of Cavalry, represents responsiveness and mobility.  Together, these elements underscore the unit's mission.  The color black connotes determination, dependability and twenty four hour capability.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 30 June 1989.

That for the regiments and separate battalions of the Washington Army National Guard:  On a wreath of the colors Or and Sable a raven with wings endorsed issuing out of a ducal coronet all Proper.
